Brake and locking systems

The right solution for every application

Drum brakes and dead man’s brakes are used for braking only. Brake systems involve a variety of different locks which can be activated in different ways. An overview of all of the different options is provided below.
  • Brake systems

    Cable pull-operated drum brake

    Bockrolle mit Trommelbremse

    Structure and function

    • activated using a cable pull (as shown above) or lever arm
    • when actuated, the brake shoes are pressed onto the cast wheel centre, which functions as a drum brake

    Advantages

    • consistently high braking force, even in wet conditions
    • short actuation path

    More information

    • a detailed description and overview of the fixed castors with drum brakes can be found here

    Cable pull-operated dead man’s brake

    Bockrolle mit Totmannbremse

    Structure and function

    • activated using a cable pull (as shown above) or lever arm
    • Before the brake is actuated, the spring presses the brake shoes onto the cast wheel centre, which functions as a drum brake.
    • The brake releases when actuated.

    Advantages

    • consistently high braking force, even in wet conditions
    • safety
    • short actuation path

    Lenkrolle mit "central-stop"

    Structure and function

    • can be activated by a hexagonal rod

    Advantages

    • consistently high braking force, even in wet conditions
    • safety
    • short actuation path

    More information

    • a detailed description and overview of swivel castors with drum brakes can be found here

  • Brake systems for central foot operation

Two swivel castors connected with a brake lever

    Lenkrolle mit Feststeller "ideal-stop"

    Structure and function

    • brake lever does not swivel with the castor
    • “ideal-stop” brake lever comes with holes as standard for easy fitting of a brake lever to connect two brake levers together

    Advantages

    • saves time as two castors can be braked and released with a single motion
    • comfort
    • occupational safety

    More information

    • a technical description of the ideal-stop brake can be found here
    • available for Blickle LK, LH and LEX bracket series

Two or four swivel castors connected with a rod

    Lenkrolle mit "central-stop"

    Structure and function

    • multiple swivel castors connected with a rod
    • rods are connected to the cam housing of the castor using a hexagonal rod

    Advantages

    • saves time as two or four castors can be braked with a single motion
    • comfort
    • occupational safety
    • small operating angle
    • can be actuated from both sides of the trolley

    More information

    • a technical description of the “central-stop” brake can be found here
    • available for Blickle LE, L, LK and LH bracket series

Multiple fixed castors connected with a rod

    Bockrolle mit "central-stop"

    Structure and function

    • multiple fixed castors connected with a rod
    • rod connected to the cam housing within the bracket using a hexagonal rod

    Advantages

    • saves time as multiple castors can be braked with a single motion
    • small operating angle

  • Brake systems for central directional brake

Directional lock, can be retrofitted, operated with a foot pedal, latching

    Lenkrolle mit montiertem Richtungsfeststeller

    Structure and function

    • Directional locks (separate) are fitted to the top plate of the swivel castor. Actuating the brake lever removes the directional lock, allowing the castor to swivel.
    • Pushing the brake lever upwards allows the castors to latch back in when travelling straight (blocks the swivel motion of the castors).

    Advantages

    • multiple directional locks connected together using a rod possible
    • can be retrofitted to standard castors
    • stability + flexibility at the workstation

    More information

    • technical information can be found here
    • available for many Blickle bracket series

Directional lock, can be retrofitted, operated with a foot pedal, selflatching

    Lenkrolle mit montiertem Richtungsfeststeller

    Structure and function

    • Actuating the brake lever unlocks the directional lock, allowing the castor to swivel. When the swivel castor is aligned in the direction of travel, the spring moves the brake lever back to its latched position.

    Advantages

    • can be retrofitted to standard castors
    • stability + flexibility at the workstation

    Directional lock for hexagonal connection

    Lenkrolle mit zentral betätigtem Richtungsfeststeller

    Structure and function

    • multiple swivel castors connected with a hexagonal rod
    • swivel castor is fixed using a pre-tensioned spring in the swivel head (converts swivel castor to fixed castor)
    • castor can swivel again when the hexagonal rod is actuated

    Advantages

    • When 6 castors are used per carriage, the central castors can function as fixed castors when the carriage is towed or moved laterally during manual operation.
